The work of Kristýna Kovaříková is rooted in expressive landscape painting. In her pieces, the artist depicts plants and moves from oil painting to the unconventional medium of rugs. The rugs are soft, pleasant to the touch, do not smudge, and are non-toxic unlike oil paint. These qualities make the process of creating them safe in an environment she shares with her children. Safety and consideration are communicated on a subliminal level through the choice of this material, but also through the fact that the artwork ultimately functions as a utilitarian object. Through this overlap, the handcrafted artefacts speak of everyday life and caregiving. They capture the nature that surrounds us and, with it, the naturalness of human relationships and our relationship to the landscape.
